Let me start by saying Chris was an absolute pleasure to work with. He was able to fit me in quickly for an estimate and took the extra time to listen and worked with me throughout to ensure I got the specific design idea I had in mind. We had to reschedule his start date several times due to a rock wall contractor “getting a late start.” This included rearranging the drop-off of materials with his supplier. He was professional through it all and started promptly on the day we finally agreed on. His crew was efficient, organized and worked through less then ideal weather to deliver a well constructed fence that was even better than I had expected. Just a real pleasure to work with. “Chris came out for the estimate, which turned out to be significantly lower than the other two bids I received. He was also able to tackle both the fence and deck at once, instead of specializing in just one or the other, which made him the obvious choice. When I called him to schedule, I let him know that I had changed the design of the fence significantly and wanted to work from a picture I had found. He said this wouldn’t be a problem, and reverse-engineered the fence from the photo. The design involved alternating regular slats with 2 1x2s, attaching them at the top and bottom, which gives the fence a stunning, artsy look and also meant that it looks the same from both sides – something which greatly pleased our neighbors, who agreed to split the cost with us (bonus!). The new design added just a dollar per foot to the price of the standard fence, so it was an exceptional deal. When it came to the challenge of working around the tree that grew over the line of the fence – actually, the tree that had knocked over our previous fence! – Chris and his workers went above and beyond in communicating with me about exactly what I wanted and coming up with a solution that was truly beautiful. This section adds a stunning centerpiece to the yard – I hadn’t expected that our fence could also be a work of art!

We also needed two small decks – one in front of a pair of French doors, and one between our house and garage. I had already acquired the Trex material from a scrap yard. It was cut to two lengths, so they had to be creative to ensure that the joints were even and symmetrical. There was a miscommunication about the direction of planks for the deck between the house and garage, but Chris went back and changed it, even though the decking had already been cut and installed the other direction. When negotiating the extra cost of labor, Chris was clearly interested in working out a compromise that I would feel satisfied with, and I was impressed by how he took ownership and approached what might be an awkward situation in a mature, straightforward fashion which made it much easier for me to ask for what I needed.

Above and beyond the work for which he was hired, Chris also generously took away some extra wood scraps at no extra cost, and even helped cut up and carry several large pieces of creosote-treated wood, which was truly going beyond the call of duty. I definitely got more than I paid for!”

Deck Masters installed a beautiful cedar fence in my back yard. Chris is great. He clearly takes a lot of pride in his work and is very meticulous. The cedar product is great quality and the craftsmanship in installation was fabulous. I was really impressed with the care Chris took in making sure the best side of each plank was facing me. I feel like Chris took the care with my fence that he would take if he were installing a fence at his own house. Chris and his crew were punctual, professional, friendly and took the time to answer my many many questions. The job was completed efficiently and they left my back yard sparkling clean.
