Ipe deck with butt and pass picture frame border

We built this beautiful deck using an exotic hardwood called ipe (Pronounced E-Pay). We used Messmers natural hardwood formula stain on it. Another interesting feature of this deck is the picture frame border we used. Sometimes people want mitered corners, but this method is called butt and pass because the border boards remain square on the ends. We also did random butt joints in the field for that hardwood flooring appearance. This was a fantastic upgrade for the exterior of this house.
