Here is a second story deck we replaced in Washington county. This customer liked the look of a good old fashioned painted cedar deck. Since he was having his house painted in the spring/summer, we installed a pre primed cedar deck that would be ready for painting along with the rest of the house. He wanted a railing that matched the style of his lower deck but was easier to clean. So we drew up plans for this railing style you see in the pictures. It uses a 2×6 instead of a typical 4×4 post which required some special engineering, but we managed to make it happen for him. When we want to build a deck or other structure that isn’t a standard design, the county or city sends the plans to be reviewed by their engineers. This process extended the amount of time it took to get the plans approved by about three weeks. But in the end this home owner got exactly what he wanted and was pleased with the results.
