This small second story deck was a re-decking of the original. The original deck had rotted out so the customer choose to go with a PVC deck to replace it. He also went with a cedar railing that he stained to match the house along with metal balusters and metal post caps. The framing extended out from the house floor itself, a common way that decks used to be built. It was still in good shape though so we were able to repair some of it and reuse the rest of it. We also added bituminous tar flashing to the top side of the joists because they were not pressure treated and we wanted to extend the life of the wood. In the end the deck came out looking great!
