Forest Heights – This custom two-story deck was built for a brand-new home in a new Forest Heights subdivision, where the homeowners wanted something beyond a standard builder-grade deck. They were looking for a more finished, durable, and functional outdoor living space, so they called Deck Masters to create a custom deck system designed to match the quality of the home. For this project, we built a two-story deck using Trex Enhance decking with Trex Select aluminum railing. The upper deck provides a large, open outdoor space with beautiful views of the surrounding trees, while the lower level was designed to become a dry, usable and lighted covered area beneath the deck using Trex RainEscape with Trex soffit lights.

Trex Enhance Decking for a Clean, Low-Maintenance Finish

The deck surface features Trex Enhance composite decking, giving the homeowners a clean, low-maintenance alternative to traditional wood. The decking color pairs nicely with the home’s exterior and creates a warm, modern look that fits the new construction setting.  Composite decking is a smart choice for elevated decks in the Pacific Northwest because it eliminates the ongoing sanding, staining, and sealing required with wood decking. For a new home, it also gives the outdoor space a more polished and long-lasting finish right from the start.

Trex Select Aluminum Railing

To complete the upper deck and stair system, we installed Trex Select aluminum railing. The black picket railing gives the deck a clean, timeless look while maintaining open views of the surrounding landscape. The railing continues down the stairway, tying the upper deck, lower patio area, and backyard together with one consistent design. It is simple, durable, and a great fit for a high-end new construction home.

Trex RainEscape Under-Deck Drainage System

The standout feature of this project is the functional space we created underneath the deck. To make the lower area usable, we installed a Trex RainEscape drainage management system beneath the upper deck. This system helps keep water from dripping through the deck boards, allowing the homeowners to enjoy a dry, covered area below. Instead of having wasted space under the elevated deck, the lower level now feels like an extension of the home.

Pre-Stained Tight Knot Cedar Ceiling with Trex Soffit Lights

To finish the underside of the deck, we installed a beautiful pre-stained tongue-and-groove tight knot cedar ceiling. The cedar adds warmth, texture, and a custom-crafted feel to the covered space below.  We also installed Trex soffit lights into the cedar ceiling, making the lower area more comfortable and usable in the evening. The combination of the RainEscape system, stained cedar, and integrated lighting transforms the underside of the deck into a finished outdoor living area rather than just a structural space.

A Better-Than-Builder-Grade Deck for a New Home

This project is a great example of why many homeowners choose to upgrade beyond the basic deck package that often comes with new construction. A two-story deck should not only look good from the outside — it should also add usable living space, improve access to the yard, and feel fully integrated with the home. With Trex Enhance decking, Trex Select aluminum railing, Trex RainEscape, a tight knot cedar ceiling, and Trex soffit lighting, this deck now delivers both form and function on both levels.
